Freehub Body with Anti Gouging Splines

Freehub Body with Anti Gouging Splines

Replacement freehub body for the 2012 model year Boyd Cycling hubs (these will NOT work with the new redesigned 2013 model year hubs). This freehub body is the newest design with Enduro sealed bearings (1X6801 1X6902) and six independently operating pawls for very fast engagement when you stomp on the pedals. There is a small spring under each pawl to guarantee solid engagement out of each pawl. This freehub comes standard on all of our hubs.

Description

One of the most popular items we offer is the freehub bodies for our hubs that came on wheels until 2013. Yes, we still have a ton of wheels over 4 years old being ridden daily!!
We are pleased to offer the new version of this freehub body with three splines containing a stainless steel insert. This will absorb the impact of the cassette and reduce gouging. All aluminum freehub bodies can have impact marks from the cassette over time, but with the three stainless steel inserts this is prevented without adding any weight.

NOTE: the stainless steel anti gouging inserts are ONLY for the Shimano freehub bodies. Because the splines on the Campy freehub bodies are much deeper, they do not need any anti gouging materials!

Replacement freehub body for the 2012 model year Boyd Cycling hubs (these will NOT work with hubs purchased after 2013!). These are 11 Speed Shimano freehubs. You can still run 10 speed on an 11 speed compatible freehub with a 1.8mm spacer behind the cassette. If you have 11 speed Shimano you MUST run the 11 speed freehub body (no spacer required). There is NO REDISHING of the rear wheel required when swapping over to an 11 speed freehub body.

Very simple design makes it easy to change out the freehub body using just two 5mm allen wrenches. You can change between Shimano 10sp, Shimano 11sp, and Campy very easily without having to redish the wheel after (the dish is made up in the freehub body). This design allows for the use of a heavier grease between the pawls and teeth inside the hub for more of a noise dampening effect. Use a low viscosity oil if you like for your hubs to be a little louder.

Note, as with all freehub bodies there is a little "notching" that can occur from the gears. This is because aluminum is a softer material and the cassette spline can wear into it. To prevent this from happening make sure your cassette is tightened down very well. If your cassette is not tightened down it can wiggle back and forth a bit which will cause the notches. A well tightened cassette has no wiggle room and your freehub body will remain looking clean.

So far so good! Just installed this 11-speed freehub body, swapping it out with the original 10-speed one was a piece of cake. Happy to be able to use this wheel on my new TT bike as well as my older 10-speed setups.
