Product Description

New version of the Vitesse alloy clincher - wider, better handling, more aero, stiffer!

660 grams front / 818 grams rear (20/24 spoke option)
682 grams front / 840 grams rear (24/28 spoke option)

Orders placed now will be shipping around beginning of June.
The demand for the new Vitesse has been much greater than we ever could have imagined. We have air shipped and sea shipped a few batches of rims and sold through those. On May 31st we have a LOT of rims coming to us in a sea shipment and will able to fulfill all orders from there. Sorry for the delay but this wheelset has been way more popular than we imagined and we have been doing our best to get rims in. Boyd

The latest offering for the Vitesse alloy clincher wheelset comes in the form of a new rim. This rim is 23mm wide, 28mm deep. The increase width of the rim helps to create a better tire to rim interface. The tire doesn't have to deflect back into the rim as much (think lightbulb shape). This better tire shape will help with better handling for those days when you want to fly down a twisty mountain or race these in a technical crit. With matching the tire width to the rim width the airflow over the tire onto the rim is much smoother giving a more aerodynamic wheelset, even though this rim is not as deep as our previous Vitesse it will be more aerodynamic.

With the better mating to the rim, you can run tires at lower PSI for a less harsh ride along rough asphalt. If you are going for a long epic ride you can better run 25mm tires for a smoother ride that is easier on your body. The wider rim will also translate into a stiffer rim, we do want all our wheels to be as stiff as possible and this rim will further help. For cyclocross applications this will be an ideal wheelset for riders not wanting to run tubular tires.

The logos on this new rim are laser etched. This slightly helps to save weight and will make the rim very easy to keep clean. You can now wipe off all the dirt without worrying about any of the decals lifting up.

* About weight limits and spoke counts. Weight limit really depends on the type of riding you are doing as well as the terrain. A rider in Florida is going to have different stresses on a wheel than somebody using the wheels in the mountains of California. We put these numbers out as guidelines, they are not strict limits. Depending on your riding style the weight limit may be different than what we have listed. For spoke count, we recommend if you are close to the point of going with the higher spoke count and really want to increase the durability of the wheels then go ahead and get the higher spoke count. As you can see the weight difference is very small, adding 44 grams to make a more durable wheelset will be worth it. If you have any questions about weight limit or spoke count please feel free to contact us.

  1. Smooth

Posted by Rob on 14th May 2012

The first thing I noticed was how smooth these wheels are…they just “roll” so easily. I've put about 250 miles on them so far, which includes climbing, technical descents, and sprints, and they performed great. The low rolling resistance is excellent. Even when coasting a descent, the acceleration improvement is very noticeable. Additionally, there are no decals…the lettering is etched into the wheel…they look great! Thanks Boyd and Nicole for a great wheel set and excellent customer service.

  2. Amazing Alloy Clinchers

Posted by Mike on 10th May 2012

To keep things in persepctive, these are some great alloy clinchers. I'm not going to simply win a race because I have these wheels, but they will be a contributing factor. Simply put, these are some super high quality wheels. They are stiffer and more comfortable than my Ksyriums, and stiffer and lighter than my DT Swiss RR1660s. They roll very smoothly and the wider rim does make a difference. Right now, they have been getting a ton of use in local crits, and they are doing just great. The wheels stay rigid (no flex) during sprints and turns. For the money, I don't beleive there is a better wheel set out there. Honestly, you may have a hard time finding a better alloy clincher, no matter how much you pay.

  3. Great value for money. Good all-around wheelset.

Posted by Marc on 9th May 2012

I took my shiny new wheels for a century ride through the mountains of Western, NC, last weekend. The Tour de Cashiers was as expected; a long, hard slog through beautiful hills, valleys and mountain climbs. We chocked up 10,000+ feet of climbing, and the Boyd Vitesse wheels performed excellently.
I am quite pleased with the snappy response of the wheels. They are a huge improvement over the stock Bontrager Race set I had on my Trek Madone, and I think they are a much better value for money than the Easton EA 90 SL or SLX alternatives I was looking at.
I highly recommend this wheelset for avid road cyclists. Looking forward to them helping me on the Assault on Mt. Mitchell this year!

  4. Excellent

Posted by Matt on 16th Apr 2012

Purchased this wheelset to replace the Mavic CXP22's that came with my Felt. I first noticed how much quicker these wheels come up to speed - power was obviously being applied directly to forward momentum. Also, climbing is much easier now as these wheels maintain speed extremely well. I was expecting the ride quality to be harsh, but the Vitesse flows along the road like a dream. I've recommended these to several people and will continue to buy from Boyd in the future. Good work, Boyd!

  5. Speed, Durability, Momentum Plus

Posted by Tommy, Taylors, SC on 10th Mar 2012

I've had the new Vitesse wheelset on my bike for just over a week now. I've put 215 miles on them in the Upstate of South Carolina and Western North Carolina. I love descending down the mountains as fast as I can and drafting in a fast paceline. These wheels do both exceptionally well. I also am able to sustain my momentum better than with my previous wheelset. I am a very satisfied customer and would recommend these wheels to anyone. Thank you Boyd and Nicole for a great wheel at a great price and your excellent customer service.

  6. Slick

Posted by Ted on 21st Jan 2012

I'm not a racer or a weight weenie and I don't use a computer so I can't really give scientific numbers. I do know I'm 200lbs and these wheels (24/28) hold my full on power with out a hint of submission. I've ridden some rough roads and climbed some big mountains and have not had a bit of out of trueness show yet after about 700 miles.

  7. Superb!!!

Posted by Rick on 12th Dec 2011

I wanted to upgrade out of the CXP22s that were on my Felt F85 when I bought it nearly 4 months ago, but didn't care to spend more on wheels than I did on the bike. And I needed something to hold my 195 lbs weight. Boyd's option of 24/28 was perfect. These wheels are light, stiff, quiet and fast. As far as I'm concerned, they were the perfect upgrade. I just did my first ride on them yesterday (26 miles). The first half was into a strong headwind (gusting to 20 mph), and I still was able to average between 2 - 3 mph faster on these wheels than on the CXP 22's. Above all, Boyd's customer service is excellent. I will also be riding Boyd wheels from now on.

  8. Great wheels at a great price.

Posted by Phil on 9th Dec 2011

I purchased a set of these wheels in early 2010, and raced over 40 times on them in 2010 and 2011, as well as logging about 8000 training miles on them. Great combination of light weight, stiffness and durability. I'd recommend them to anyone looking for a durable but light wheel. I've used Zipp, Reynolds, and several Mavic wheels, but these held up better than any of the others!

  9. Incredible

Posted by Brandon (Cumming, GA) on 1st Oct 2011

I own Mavic Ksyrium SL, Mavic Cosmic Carbone, and Campagnolo Eurus wheels. I wish that I would have saved all of that money and just bought Boyd wheels. I weigh 220lbs and race Cat 4. These wheels (24 spokes front and 28 spokes rear) are as stiff as my Carbones and roll better than any of the wheels listed above. I have also posted my fastest times with these wheels on the same 80 mile course that I have been riding for the last 4 years. Boyd has great customer service and has introduced a great wheel for training and racing. He will get my future business.

  10. Absolutely awesome - Fast & Stiff!

Posted by Dan (Greenville, SC) on 22nd Sep 2011

Not sure there is a lighter 30mm wheelset on the market! Just replaced my original Alex500 wheels with the Vitesse. Posted the fastest ride of the summer at 1.6mph faster over 30 plus miles. And Boyd built the wheelset with 24 spokes (front) & 28 spokes (rear) to support my weight at 225lbs. These wheels fly on the flats and climbing the rollers has never been easier. You will not be disappointed!
