Why do I need it?
The Altamont is the wheelset that propelled Boyd Cycling to a major wheel company. Way ahead of it's time when it was released the Altamont received great reviews for the build quality, rim design, and durability. Fast forward to the 2020's, it's hard to find a good rim brake wheelset anymore. However, we know there is still a demand and still a need to high the highest possible quality alloy wheelset.
We get the email all the time, "I love my rim brake bike. I don't want to move to a different bike, but I want my current wheels to be nicer." Well, we hear you and thanks to the flexibility that in house manufacturing brings, we can produce this model when everyone else has decided to abandon this segment.
This handcrafted wheel is laced with double-butted j-bend spokes and brass nipples and features specific front and rear rim profiles. Two cross lacing pattern built to withstand high-torque loads. The front wheel is built with a 27mm deep symmetrical rim, whereas the rear is built with a slightly deeper 31mm deep rim with a 2.8mm offset for improves balance and stiffness. This wheel spins BOYD 85 Road rim brake hubs that feature five degrees of engagement, quick swap freehub body, press-fit end caps and is compatible with Shimano, Sram and Campagnolo cassettes. This rim brake specific wheelset weighs in at 1620g and is for every day and every road.
