Not all gravel is fast.
Not all gravel is smooth.
And not all gravel rides look like a 20-mph paceline on champagne dirt.

The Boyd Cycling Reiver was built for the other kind of gravel—the kind that feels suspiciously like 1990s mountain biking. Washed-out fire roads. Chunky descents. Rutted climbs. Trails that make you wonder if you brought the wrong bike… and then reward you for pushing anyway.

The Reiver comes set up with tubeless tape and tubeless valves.

Rough gravel. Hard Miles.

No Excuses.

The Reiver is for when the route gets rough, the miles get long, and quitting would mean turning around.

Choose the Rough Line

If your idea of gravel riding looks more like old-school mountain biking than a road race on dirt, the Boyd Cycling Reiver is your wheelset.

This is not a wheelset built for podium sprints or aero-obsessed gravel racing. If your goal is to sit at 22 mph on pristine farm roads, there are more race-focused options out there (like the Pinnacle Race).

The Reiver is for when the route gets rough, the miles get long, and quitting would mean turning around.

The foundation is a 26mm internal-width carbon rim, designed to support modern high-volume gravel tires at lower pressures. That width delivers stability and confidence when the terrain turns ugly, letting the tire do its job instead of bouncing off every rock. Each rim weighs just 380 grams, striking a balance between strength, compliance, and weight where it actually matters.

Power transfer comes from Boyd’s Grade 36 hubs, built with a 10-degree ratchet engagement that’s quick enough for technical climbs and punchy terrain without sacrificing durability. When you need to ratchet through rocks or restart on a loose incline, the Reiver responds instantly—no dead zones, no drama.

The build leans intentionally toward reliability: Pillar TB2016 J-bend spokes and brass nipples were chosen for toughness and serviceability. This is a wheelset meant to survive rough lines, loaded bikes, and long days far from home—not just one race weekend.

Carbon Rims

Every cut and ply of carbon plays a story in how a rim responds. Reinforced layup where it matters to add extra strength and make the Reiver an everyday wheel, not just for race days.

Grade 36 Hubs

The new Grade 36 hubs are built for reliability, durability, and performance. Weighing just 340 grams for the set, the hubs feature a ratchet drive system with 36 teeth and just 10 degrees of engagement

TPI Bearings

The TPI Abec 3 bearings are used throughout the industry as a reliable and durable bearing that rolls smoothly and provides the longevity for use in all conditions.

Handbuilt

Every wheel goes through 5 different work centers, before being QCed for true, run out, and spoke tension. This ensures every wheel will keep running as true as the day you received them.

Grade 36 hubs

Featured in the Prologue level wheels is the Grade 36 hubs featuring a J-Bend flange, high strength steel ratchet with 36 teeth giving 10 degrees of engagement, and the low weight to help you fly up the steepest of hills.

Key features of the Grade 54 hubs include

  • 36t ratchet hub wheelset
  • 10 degree engagement hubs
  • TPI Abec 3 bearings
  • Centerlock disc brake rotor mounting
  • Quick swap freehub wheelset
  • Tool-free service and parts swapping
  • 7075-T6 aluminum alloy axles
